CRI Solutions

Scale-out and HPC cluster solutions include SGI Rackable half-depth and standard rackmount servers, CloudRackTM tray-based cabinets for breakthrough density and configurability, and SGI ICETM with its high-performance, Infiniband interconnect-based HPC blade architecture.

Scale-up with SGI UVTM which offers coherent shared memory architecture and uses the low-latency NUMAlink interconnect technology.  SGI UV is the world’s most scalable and flexible shared memory computing system based on open standars for solving the world’s most data-intensive problems.

Modular Data Center (MDC) solutions include SGI ICE Cube, ISO-based and water chilled; and, ICE Cube Air, air cooled MDCs.  These augment or replace traditional brick-and-mortar facilities, offering solutions that can start small, at just four racks worth of compute, but can expand out to 80n racks.   CRI MDC solutions can be deployed in days, versus the typical time required to build new facilities.  As with all SGI products, CRI can harden all products to meet specific ruggedization requirements.

Networking Solutions include node-level integration (dual/quad NICs, GigE, 10GigE, InfinBand QDR and FDR onboard interfaces), cluster-level integration for clustered computing (pre-tested, pre-certified high-speed switches, in-cabinet aggregation, and software managed GigE, 10GigE, IB), and Fiber  Channel integration for clustered storage (high-speed data access, interconnects and stacking).  The SGI UV scale-up server line features SGI’s own high-performance, low-latency NUMAlink interconnect, with up to 15GB/sec bandwidth.

Data Center Technologies help reduce total cost of ownership.  They include Power XETM power distribution management for phase balanced, up to 99% efficient power distribution, maximum density at the cabinet and row levels, thermally neutral doors, self-adjusting fan arrays, back-to-back server mounting capabilities, cable reduction, AC and DC power options, and higher temperature tolerance for operation up to 1040F (400C).

Software for HPC,

big data processing and management, visualization and storage include the SGI Management Suite, SGI Performance Suite, SGI Foundation Software, SGI OpenFOAM for computational fluid dynamics and complete Hadoop solution for big data analysis.  Storage management software includes LiveArcTM Digital Asset management and DMF Tier Virtualization.  SGI servers are certified for Microsoft Windows, SUSE Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and VMWare ESX.

Purpose Built Ruggedization by CRI provides custom solutions to COTS SGI products for the extreme environments.  While many military functions can be implemented on distributed and/or low-powered systems, significant applications of high-performance computing (HPC) for military and space operations require high-end compute capabilities in small, deployable configurations. Computer systems for ground or sea deployment have significant size and weight constraints. Airborne systems are even more constrained, and are also subject to power consumption limitations and the increased need for reliable interconnections and EMI/RFI containment.  Ground based systems for oil and gas exploration puts the compute power on-site for rapid analysis.

Proactive research and development has helped CRI remain at the forefront of deployable HPC technology. CRI deployable HPC solutions provide computational cycles to address mission objectives and meet stressing mission requirements. SGI's high-performance scale up or scale out blade architecture is uniquely suited for deployable HPC in new program designs, future combat systems, next generation ships, unmanned aerial and underwater vehicles (UAVs and UUVs), and new satellite constellations, energy exploration and other applications.
